I believe everyone deserves support for their births.
And while I am unable to attend in every setting at this time, I need to be clear about who I do serve.
I offer complete virtual doula support for those who just want someone to turn to. Someone that isn’t connected by emotion like friends and family members. Someone who will give honest information and advice. Someone to bounce around thoughts and ideas with. A virtual pregnancy companion. This includes labor, birth, and postpartum support too.
I serve women in their homes who want to labor as long as possible before heading into their place of birth. So this is complete doula support, except I won’t be physically there for the final moments. That is, hopefully you arrive at your place of birth near or well into transition, close to giving birth. What that does is limit the time you’re in the facility, meaning less time for intervention, abuse, and scare tactics. But you’ll still have me to turn to (via phone or text) if you need advice or suggestions. It really is a win-win-win for everyone. Less trauma for you, you’re in and out for them, and less secondary trauma for me. Families can feel more safe laboring longer at home with me because of the experience I’ve gained over the years tending to birthing families in the home setting.
I have served unassisted home births. Look it up. This means No midwife. No doctor. No OB. No medical professional at the birth. And that is simply because the family doesn’t want them there! Some will still see a provider during their pregnancy, and others will provide their own prenatal care. I am a doula. However I know a little bit more than the average doula, and can teach you many things that may be important for your birth. I’ve had 4 babies. A cesarean, a hospital vbac, and 2 water births at home unassisted. I also provided my own prenatal care for some of them. I still was able to to tests and ultrasounds and listen to my babys heartbeat. But on my own terms. And many other families have experienced this with my support as well!
But I cannot, and will not claim to be a medical professional. I do not believe birth is always a medical event anyway. However there are certain times where it’s a good idea to seek medical attention. High risk pregnancies, illness, complications, and emergencies. I cannot choose who is fit for an unassisted birth. That’s up to you. But I would hope you’d want to do what best for you, whatever that may look like.
Regardless of what you may have read or heard about me, I invite you to reach out. Let’s talk. I want to help everyone find their path to their dream births even if it’s not with me.
